Representative McReynolds is chairman of the House Committee on Corrections and serves on the powerful Calendars Committee. He is also a member of the House Committee on Public Health.
First elected to the House in 1996, Representative McReynolds has been appointed to numerous key committees for his rural East Texas district, including Public Health, Local Government Ways and Means, Agriculture and Livestock, Juvenile Justice and Family Issues, and the Select Committees on Rural Economic Development and Long Term Care.
He has authored landmark legislation providing much-needed tax relief to timber landowners, improving rural fire prevention, and strengthening rural health care services. As the owner of Chapparel Energy in Lufkin, Representative McReynolds is one of the small handful of House members with a working knowledge of the energy business. He also lends an experienced hand on education issues as a former educator and a professor of History.
The senior member of the East Texas legislative delegation, Jim McReynolds represents House District 12. In addition to his business and academic interests, he is a deacon at his church.
Representative McReynolds and his wife, Judy, a public school teacher, have two children and two grandchildren.
