Republican Leaders Endorse Mark Homer for Texas House

October 16th, 2008

(PARIS) — An influential group of Republican state lawmakers today enthusiastically endorsed State Representative Mark Homer for re-election, saying that the East Texas leader is a problem solver who has earned the trust of voters and the respect of his colleagues.

“Mark Homer works with everybody to bridge divides, find common ground, and create solutions,” said State Representative Brian McCall, a respected Republican from Plano who serves on the House Higher Education and Financial Institutions committees. “The only team he’s on is yours.”

Joining McCall in making the endorsement were Republican state lawmakers Byron Cook (R-Corsicana), Charlie Geren (R-Fort Worth), Jim Keffer (R-Eastland), and Tommy Merritt (R-Longview). All five legislators are known for their independence and willingness to put sound public policy ahead of partisan politics.

“Austin isn’t like Washington, and we don’t want it to be,” McCall said. “That’s why we work together for Texas — and Mark Homer is one of the best.”

Homer last year proposed a comprehensive insurance reform agenda to lower costs and improve coverage for Texas homeowners who pay more than twice the national average to insure their property. He is also calling for measure to make college tuition more affordable for middle-class families who earn too much to qualify for needs-based scholarships but not enough to pay for their children’s higher education without taking out expensive loans.

A director of the Texas Legislative Sportsman Caucus, Homer also serves as a member of the Rural Caucus and the Texas Legislative Tourism Caucus.

An active member of his hometown community, Homer graduated from Paris High School. He earned his degree in animal science from Texas A&M University and owns a number of low-cost family restaurants in the region. He and his family live in Paris.
