2020 Members Focus on Ike Recovery

September 16th, 2008

For 20/20 members, Hurricane Ike hit close to home - literally. Representative Ritter represents a coastal district that was heavily damaged by Ike’s wake. Representative Garcia’s hometown of Corpus experienced some of the storm’s effects. And when the powerful storm pushed inland, it cut a path through East Texas, a region represented by a majority of 20/20 members.

For all, priorities have shifted from politics to recovery. Members will be working with county and city officials in the upcoming days and weeks to ensure that citizens are returned to their communities as soon as possible, and that those Texans still at home will soon have clear roads and their utilities restored.

Representative Chuck Hopson, a pharmacist, is focusing on those people with chronic medical needs.

“Right now is the time for family, friends and neighbors to come together for support,” Hopson said.

The Red Cross will be spearheading relief efforts. To make a contribution to the Red Cross disaster relief fund call 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
